Overview of Group Activity and Key Objectives

The Development Group has been hard at work over the summer months, and we are moving on at a pace.
Following the establishment of the Development Group by the meeting of Braehead Clubs on the 27th April 2009, and the agreement of the Group's constitution, we have agreed the priorities the clubs gave us. These are:
· Assist Member Clubs to sustain and develop membership.
· Improve communication with our own Braehead Database.
· Identify requirements for coaching equipment and upgrades.
· Provide opportunities for curlers to improve techniques.
· Establish internet link to TV screens in bar to take curling webcasts.
· Install overhead cameras on a number of sheets linked to TV screens in the bar.
· Organise social events to extend the ‘fellowship of curling’
· Develop and expand the Braehead Curling Website.
· Review current Competitions and promote improvements.

We have met three times over the summer and the key developments are:
To review requirements for coaching with a view to purchasing equipment.
To improve communication - part of which involves use of a new database which to communicate directly with all members including a regular newsletter.
Organising a an Opening Funspiel for the evening of Friday 18th September, which is open to all Braehead curlers and we hope will raise significant funds for Braehead Development.
Applying for an Awards for All grant to support coaching and new curler development.
Trustees of previous Curltech funds have agreed to provide £2000 for curling development at Braehead.
We have audited our needs for IT development and are now pretty clear what are requirements are in order to show curling in the bar area, including webcasting, cameras over several rinks, and the ability to have live internet of Braehead games at bigger competiions.
We expect to have a Christmas special event in December - perhaps a Turkey Shoot - more news later.
The curling website is being developed further and Gordon Nicholl is shortly to become the webmaster of the website.
We plan to run a series of seminars for clubs including information on how to develop clubs.
