Competition Rules for 2011/12

Membership Of Braehead Curling Rink

To play in most of the Braehead Local competitions, all members of the team should be members of Braehead Curling Rink. However, this rule is relaxed in the Brechin & Allcomers, where ONLY ONE PLAYER must be A MEMBER of Braehead Curling Rink. It will also be relaxed for new clubs to Braehead Curling Rink who are playing in the new small club league but all clubs taking part should be members of The Braehead Curling Development Group.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Braehead Open, the Ladies Open, the Glynhill Ladies , the Open Mixed Doubles, the Braehead Festive Cup and other Open competitions are not ‘Local Competitions’

All games are 8 ends or the bell unless an alternative rule is specifically detailed in the competitions rules of format laid down by the organizers.

Unless otherwise stated RCCC Rules apply.

Organising Games

In a knock out competition, where the date of a game has not been set by the rink, the challenger is the lower team in the draw. The Challenging team is responsible for timeously offering three reasonable dates to the opposing team they are drawn to play. If these three dates are unsuitable to the opposing team, then that team’s skip must in turn timeously offer 3 reasonable dates. Where the two teams fail to set a date which is prior or on the due date of the competition, the Braehead Competitions committee may decide to disqualify both teams from the competition. Alternatively the competitions committee may set the date that the game will be played. Teams should make every reasonable effort to organise and play games. The responsibility for booking and arranging lies with the skips. The Braehead office will take no responsibility for organising any of the above.
The decision of the Braehead competitions committee is binding on the teams

Substitutes

Teams can use up to a maximum of three substitutes in one competition.
Substitutes can play up to and including the position they are replacing.

Late or Non Arrivals

A team entered to play with a member(s) failing to appear on the ice and ready to play after five minutes of the starting time, shall:
• Start playing if they have 3 players.
• Forfeit 1 shot, and 1 additional shot for each additional 5 minutes up to a maximum of 5 shots

For the avoidance of doubt, a team may play a full game with 3 players, but will forfeit 5 shots to the opposing team. A team with only 2 players will forfeit the game
In forfeiting a game, 2 points, 6 ends and 6 shots will be awarded to the non offending team

Tied Games

Where a game is tied, and a winner is required because the competition is at a knockout stage, the following rule applies:
An extra end shall be played if the ice technician agrees that there is time and no team is coming onto the ice in the next 20 minutes. If the ice technician is unable to allow an extra end, then a draw shot challenge shall occur until conclusion – sweepers are allowed, though the opposition cannot sweep behind the Tee line.
Where the teams are playing a league format then tied games are acceptable.

Seeding

For seeding in leagues and other formats the following in order are used unless otherwise specifically stated in the rules of the competition:
• No of Points won, No of Ends won, Net Shots scored, Total shots scored.
