Try Curling!

Notes from Braehead

20/8/2014

As we approach another busy curling season I thought it timely to let you know of a few changes and initiatives to be introduced at Braehead.

Catering
I am delighted to inform you that Ken Clarke of Redss Catering will be taking on the full catering provision for the bar. Redss have supplied the food for bonspiels and events for a few years and has consistently produced a very high standard. Please continue to direct all enquiries for meeting rooms, functions, bonspiels and catering via Bruce Harley (Leisure Manager). Menus currently in print.

Free Practice
Commencing 1st September we will be making Mondays between 10am and 12pm a drop in for practice. There will be no charge for this and there is no need to book. In the true spirit of “drop in” you may find yourself sharing a sheet of ice. Braehead members only.

Open Competitions
Please support our competitions. Braehead Open 27/28 Sept. Ladies Open 3rd December, Robin Brechin and Allcomers Sunday 1st March.

Try Curling
Following the success of Try Curling last season, when we saw 650 new curlers on the ice for the first time, we have four new dates organised. 12/14 September, 4/5 October.  FREE to anyone that wants to give it a go for the first time. Register at www.trycurling.com

Coaching
In a perfect world every club would have a registered coach. Braehead Curling Development Group are making strides with new coaching and upskilling those currently qualified.  Please support them in their efforts

Free Club Ice
A number of clubs have taken advantage of “dead” ice if they have been struggling for members over the past few years, indeed two clubs I know have benefitted enormously through taking a proactive approach and introducing friends and colleagues to the sport. Conditions attached but its worth asking. To be used for development only as an introduction to curling.

Clipboard monitoring
This season there will be a random check during each session to establish that everyone playing is a paid up member of Braehead. Please support this as paying members should not be supporting and subsidising non members.
